What a hideous MAME April‘s Fools Joke - and I completely fell in

When it comes to mamedev.org, I really take everything very seriously. So I was not suspicious at all when the MAME core team published its „Future plans announcement“ on 1 April 2026.

The very long post really triggered me with these highlights:

• Focus on Windows, but no other operating systems.
• AI-assisted code check and Rust migration

I asked myself: „Is this the end of official macOS support for MAME?“ 

I was quite disappointed … until only on 7th April 2026, the team clarified: 

„I hope you enjoyed our April Fools’ Day announcement. With that out of the way, it’s time to discuss actual upcoming changes to MAME.“ 

Congrats MAME team, you really made my day 😂.
